Our Services

Cornerstone play therapy helps children build their self esteem within a safe and confidential environment. Through this therapeutic service, a child begins to understand their own feelings, and is given the chance to work through them in their own personal process.

Cornerstone play therapy is for children experiencing the following, but not limited to:

  • Anxiety

  • Bereavement

  • Divorce and separation

  • Low self esteem

  • Lack of confidence

  • Adoption/fostered children

  • Anger issues

  • Depression

  • Intellectual disability

  • Communication and social skills

  • Illness in the family

  • Sexual identity

  • Attachment issues

The first step in this process is an initial meeting with the parent/guardian of the child who will be attending the sessions. In this meeting we will do an assessment, and gather some background information to understand where the child is coming from, and what may be going on for them. This is a good opportunity for the parent/guardian to ask any questions they may have for the therapist and to also see the play therapy room. A contract is made in this meeting between the parent/guardian and therapist to commit to the process and the sessions.

To begin with, a contract of 12 sessions is recommended, with a follow up meeting held at session 8 to review the child’s process and discuss what happens next. Although that is the next official meeting, any additional meetings wanted before that time are facilitated, and welcomed.

The sessions between the child and therapist are confidential. If a disclosure of abuse, or if a fear for the child’s safety becomes apparent within the session then the therapist will work within the schools’ policies and procedures on child protection to report this.
